- Partnership of the project has implemented Massive Online Open Course (MOOC) on working with young people against (invisible) racism
- The MOOC had the total of 1063 participants enrolled, and very high completion rate of 33,2%
- There is still possibility to continue learning in the self-paced version of the MOOC
During the months of March and April the partnership of the European project STAR, which aim to counter invisible racism and other form of intolerance in the everyday lives of young people, has implemented a Massive Online Open Course. This activity was one of the final stages of the project, and after 2 years working directly with young people developing and testing tools and approaches, we tried to collect all the learning and present it in the simple to follow online course. The MOOC is divided into 6 modules, where the first part is mainly focused on the knowledge on racism, hate speech and anti-racism. The second part of the MOOC is more related to education and approached in the youth work.
We were overwhelmed with the huge participation, with the total of 1063 people who enrolled in the project. Over 70% of them has been based in Europe, and 19% in Asia. We know as well about our participants that the majority described themselves as professionals working with young people, teachers, NGO employees and volunteers. We are very happy about the numbers, meaning about the completion rate which is 33,2% and much higher than the average, as well the participants has evaluated the overall experience on participation in the MOOC for 4,7 out of 5. And we are even more happy about some of the comments that participants shared about the curse:
- It is an important course to identify racism and invisible racism and prejudice in ourselves first and then in our community to learn how to deal with it.
- It opens your eyes on a lot of issues, teaches you how to question yourself before questioning others and it’s well-made, interesting and stimulating.
- The course is very informative. It utilises good videos and provides links to some good resources to use to educate others. It encourages us to look inwards, to help us to identify and challenge racism. It provides clear definitions and examples.
- Such an extensive course with information I wouldn’t be able to find all in one place anywhere else.
- Not boring and really (!) interactive. New interesting tools, explanations with a simple language (not scientific which is a big plus), diverse opinions to the topic.
- There are many unknown and unseen details and aspect when comes to discuss about racism. This course brought together a wide range of concepts that could be collected from different spread resources, but here we can find them in a logic and comprehensive manner.
- I strongly recommend this MOOC to you for the following reasons. 1. It has an engaging, well-shared, and thoughtful content. 2. It has an amazing team of youth educators coming from fieldwork with youth in educating them to tackle invisible racism, 3. I guarantee that besides you will increase your understanding of invisible racism, it will incline you to thirsty follow every lesson as all content it is interestingly shared.
- «Make it visible» makes racist behaviors visible that are really invisible for most of us, hidden under social norms. And so it broadens our perspective on events and people. This is something everyone needs. That’s why I can recommend this course to anyone.
There is still a possibility to access the content of the MOOC, since the course will star on the platform. - La asociación del proyecto ha puesto en marcha el Curso Abierto Masivo en Línea (MOOC) sobre el trabajo con los jóvenes contra el racismo (invisible)
- El MOOC tuvo un total de 1063 participantes inscritos, y una tasa de finalización muy alta: del 33,2%.
- Todavía hay posibilidad de seguir aprendiendo en la versión autodidacta del MOOC
Durante los meses de marzo y abril de 2020, el partenariado del proyecto europeo STAR, que tiene por objeto contrarrestar el racismo invisible y otras formas de intolerancia en la vida cotidiana de los jóvenes, ha puesto en marcha un curso abierto masivo en línea o MOOC. Esta actividad ha sido una de las etapas finales del proyecto, y después de 2 años trabajando directamente con los jóvenes desarrollando y probando herramientas y enfoques, intentamos recoger todo el aprendizaje y presentarlo en el curso online de fácil seguimiento. El MOOC está dividido en 6 módulos, donde la primera parte se centra principalmente en el conocimiento del racismo, el discurso del odio y el antirracismo. La segunda parte del MOOC está más relacionada con la educación y se aborda en el trabajo con los jóvenes.
Estuvimos abrumados por la enorme participación, con un total de 1063 personas que se inscribieron en el proyecto. Más del 70% de ellos de Europa, y el 19% en Asia. Sabemos también de nuestros participantes que la mayoría se describieron como profesionales que trabajan con jóvenes, profesores, empleados de ONG y voluntarios. Estamos muy contentos con los números, es decir, con la tasa de finalización que es del 33,2% y mucho más alta que la media, así como con la evaluación por parte de los participantes de la experiencia general en el MOOC, que ha sido de un 4,7 de 5. Y estamos aún más contentos con algunos de los comentarios que los participantes compartieron sobre el curso:
- Es un curso importante para identificar el racismo y el racismo y los prejuicios invisibles en nosotros mismos primero y luego en nuestra comunidad para aprender a lidiar con ellos.
- Te abre los ojos sobre muchos temas, te enseña a cuestionarte a ti mismo antes de cuestionar a los demás y está bien hecho, es interesante y estimulante.
- El curso es muy informativo. Utiliza buenos vídeos y proporciona enlaces a algunos buenos recursos para educar a otros. Nos anima a mirar hacia adentro, para ayudarnos a identificar y desafiar el racismo. Proporciona definiciones y ejemplos claros.
- Un curso muy extenso con información que no sería capaz de encontrar todo en un solo lugar en cualquier otro lugar.
- No es aburrido y es realmente (!) interactivo. Nuevas herramientas interesantes, explicaciones con un lenguaje simple (no científico, lo que es un gran plus), diversas opiniones sobre el tema.
- Hay muchos detalles y aspectos desconocidos y no vistos cuando se trata de discutir sobre el racismo. Este curso reunió una amplia gama de conceptos que podrían ser recogidos de diferentes recursos difundidos, pero aquí podemos encontrarlos de una manera lógica y completa.
- Recomiendo encarecidamente este MOOC por las siguientes razones. 1. Tiene un contenido atractivo, bien compartido y reflexivo. 2. Tiene un equipo increíble de educadores de jóvenes que vienen del trabajo de campo con los jóvenes en la educación para hacer frente al racismo invisible, 3. Te garantizo que además de aumentar tu comprensión del racismo invisible, te inclinará a seguir con ganas cada lección ya que todo el contenido es interesante.
- «Make it visible» hace visibles comportamientos racistas que son realmente invisibles para la mayoría de nosotros, ocultos bajo las normas sociales. Y así amplía nuestra perspectiva sobre los eventos y las personas. Esto es algo que todo el mundo necesita. Por eso puedo recomendar este curso a cualquiera.
Todavía existe la posibilidad de acceder al contenido del MOOC, ya que el curso estará disponible en la plataforma. Esta es una de las razones por las que hemos decidido utilizar el MOOC como herramienta de aprendizaje, ya que lo consideramos muy sostenible y cualquiera puede seguir aprendiendo sin ningún coste adicional para la asociación.
